Alfred Her­mida, assis­tant pro­fes­sor at the Gra­duate School of Jour­na­lism at the Uni­ver­sity of Bri­tish Colum­bia, argues in the May M/C Jour­nal that “Twit­ter has emer­ged as a key medium for news and infor­ma­tion about major events” and is part of an “ambient jour­na­lism” that was birthed by digi­tal technologies.
